You witnessed it all through: 2008 was a tremendous breakthrough for abaim in its activities related to our cultural heritage. We wish to put on record your unflinching support to this action.

You have indeed been a privileged witness to a process that will lead next year to the unfolding of one of the most important aspects of its very survival and development. That was all about the live recording of 31 songs of the oral tradition. So much of emotions! Flying memories! Full of promises!

L’année 2008 passe le temoin a l’annee 2009 pour l’aboutissement d’un aspect majeur d’un processus d’une richesse extraordinaire dans le domaine de la transmission de la tradition orale à Maurice.

Commence de manière systematique depuis trois ans maintenant après Ti Marmit et Tizan, la réalization de ce travail de collecte, de préservation et de dissemination de trente et une chansons traditionelles sera sans doute un évenement de taille en 2009.

Nous tenons à vous rémercier de manière chaleureuse du soutien que vous nous avez accordé tout au long de ce processus.

Concert à Grand Baie

On avait pris rendez-vous avec Grand Baie dans un centre commercial… Je vous passe les détails de la frénésie du départ…. hâte d’y être, mais avant - tout emballer, ne rien oublier… Bon, nous voila enfin sur l’autoroute. Rien ne pouvait nous empêcher de faire un bon spectacle ! Sauf qu’il s’est mis à pleuvoir. On croyait que rien de pire ne pouvait nous arriver … mais si ! Mais si ! Cerise sur le gâteau, on a eu droit a un son pourri!
Rester Cool … ! il faut absolument keep cool!
Relax avant la scéne... Z'heureux nos jeunes, v'trouver pas ? Et sur scéne alors, ne sont-ils pas Super Top, Super Fashion ?

La pêche, elles l'ont aussi, nos mamans et autres accompagnatrices. Sans elles...no wonderful life!

Bref, qu’importe, les petits étaient la, le public était la aussi, quoique très maigre …normal pas un temps à mettre le nez dehors … Alors on a fait avec… Plus que seulement un concert, chaque sortie d’Abaim est une occasion de découvertes, de rencontres…Et tant pis si les micros n’apportaient aucun vibrato ..nous avons transposé et transporté nos soucis pour un moment de détente bien mérité !

Goodbye to a genuine Mauritian citizen

Abaim would like to express to you all its deepest sympathy and condolences after the tragic death of Mr Chaitlall Gunness in Mumbai's Taj Hotel attacks.

We are all still in a state of shock at what has happened to CEO C.Gunness, the last supporter of our action in favour of cultural heritage in Mauritius. We have indeed lost in Mr Gunness a genuine Mauritian citizen eager at working for the development of the Mauritian identity through cultural action.

The short moment we have known Mr Gunness will forever live in the collective memory of our organisation.

In this moment of troubling intensity, may all of us reaffirm our commitment to reject all acts of fundamentalist barbary and actively participate in the creation of humanity across mother-earth.

Creole language emerged from the colonial-slavery context. The language sprout at the same time in different parts of the world with similar socio-historical background.

Exhausted but hearts bursting with happiness. 3 weeks of non-stop music under the most energetic maestro I have ever met . Took some days off. Time also for our body and soul to recover after the lafet to bid Filou goodbye.

Weather was heavenly and friends of Filou and the Association rushed through the yard of Lekol Maingard . Gathered under the Mango tree…


Mots de remerciements, témoignages, présentation de souvenirs from Paradi , mini lancement a travers l’écoute du travail réalisé jusqu’a présent sur l’album du patrimoine mauricien…

Ensuite, il y eu le dîner… a la Bring and Share style… Merci encore à tous ceux qui y ont contribué et pour finir un live filmé…Devinez qui a joué au réalisateur ?

J’aime ces semaines d’avant un enregistrement, un mélange de feeling divers… enthousiasme, angoisse, peur, … et puis finalement, au milieu des enfants, de leurs parents, des camarades et des sympathisants, attentifs a l’écoute du futur album , au son d’Abaim, rien que du bonheur …

Oh ! Pas que c’est fini… Tout le contraire… Il va falloir se taper beaucoup de réunions, discuter et encore kiskite , le planning et tutti quanti avant l’accouchement… Mais Dieu que ça va être intéressant !
Le Group Abaim, des années que ça dure… et ça n’a jamais été barbant !
Créer , Recréer et toujours innover…
Même Filou, continue a planché sur nos extravagances…il a eu le virus…

It's been a wonderful last night... full of positive vibrations!

19h30, et on était déjà prêts sous le manguier... il avait plu encore pendant la journée et au fil des heures, notre espoir d'enregistrer s'amenuisait...

Un concentré de Filou et de Patrice sur l'enregistrement de "Kanar"...

Eh oui! la pluie nous avait fait tellement peur qu'on croyait ne pas pouvoir enregistrer. Mais non! On était à coté de la plaque. C'était le meilleur enregistrement qu'on ait fait depuis que Filou notre ingénieur du son est là.. Ce fut une expérience formidable et inoubliable!!
