I spent my May Day 2008 at Abaim. All my friends were present for this special occasion.I was very excited because, I really wanted to know how the adults faced the hard reality of working life. There were many children of the Saturday Care' and some parents were also present.Danniella presided the ceremony,and in between there were some people who talked and sang
Daniella talked about all sorts of violence which children faced and endured at their very little age.The Mauritius BroadCasting Corporation members were present too, in order to report it later on. They have also interviewed Danniella .I was really enjoying myself.The discussion about children at work was quite intreresting, also shocking.
Then some refreshments and snacks were offered outside under the mango tree.The children brought some diffrent types to share among all the guess in Abaim. They were simply delicious.Songs were about the theme of children at work. Finally, it was a really enjoyable and fascinating day, because I had learned many things related to the working life. This to tell you frankly, I can say that I am not ready to afford the life of work!!!

Riambel, un soir d'été.

Rendez-vous était donné à 16h30 au Centre d'Abaim pour le départ - direction le sud de l'île !

L'autobus est bondé ...un p'tit air de pique-nique. sauf que l'arrière à été envahie par de drôles de passagers, eh oui la sono. .. Ben, Gilbert et Eric s'étaient assurés tant bien que mal que tout était sécurisé. A l'avant, jeunes et moins jeunes et les encadreurs se serrent, tous excités à l'idée d'une autre rencontre avec la classe CM2de l'Ecole du Nord. Car nous avions tous en mémoire celle de l'année dernière ( voir notre post du 11 Mai précédent).

Nous pouvions enfin démarrer dans un joyeux chahut.

Une petite pleure car sa grande soeur n'est pas la. On la console en lui promettant qu'elle va s'éclater ... Nous quittons la ville bruyante pour pénétrer dans la campagne plus paisible. Les enfants font maintenant un tintamarre épouvantable que le ronflement de l'autobus n'arrive pas à couvrir... ils se racontent mille et une choses et les rires fusent de partout. Aurélie joue au guide et essaye d'attirer notre attention sur un nouveau village, une rivière, une cascade - Nouvelle France, Tyack, Souillac défilent... Elle hurle, voulant à tout prix améliorer notre connaissance en géographie ... et puis enfin nous rejoignons la cote, dorée à point, Riambel. 30°à l'ombre.

Mais bien vite, il commence à faire sombre. Vite trouver le campement avant la nuit... Petite panique... est-ce qu'on l'a raté ? Jacques ne tient plus en place... très mal voyant mais pouvant n'importe quand se situer, il nous rassure... Mais oui ! Le voila - presque à la fin de Riambel. L'autobus emprunte une longue allée et au bout - grande cour, gazon vert... cool ! Rien à dire - dépaysement total pour nous Beau-Bassinois!

Nous quittons l'autobus rapidement, trop contents d'être enfin arrivés ! Des petites têtes s'avancent, hésitant ... tiens, il y'a Pascal qui est là, prof en short trois quarts.. et... Joceline aussi . Elle, cela fait un bail qu'on la connait ... Elle avait étè mairesse de la ville de Beau Bassin-Rose Hill et donc témoin de nos premiers débuts sur la scène!

Jus et biscuits, l'atmosphère se détend!
Et nous voilà re-parti pour une autre très belle soirée...














Au menu les classiques : Tizan ar so 8 frer - Zakana Zakana, Ti Marmit, Emannue, Lapli Laponp etc. etc.
les nouveautés (en passe de devenir aussi des classiques ) : En haut en haut sur cette montagne, Des pommes, des poires, des ananas...

The Right to Play...

At last.. the holidays.
Saturday, the 5th of April.
Playtime wouldn't you agree ?
However, that is not the case for the majority of our children in Mauritius.
Aarggh! They are still indulging in private tuition for one whole week, when not for both weeks. Shame ! Shame ! Shame !
That is why, at ABAIM, the very first Saturday Care activity following the end of the 1st semester, was a bit special...
Children rushed in as usual at 13h00. But the door of the Centre at Beau Bassin was kept closed and instead we all walked some ? kms ( don't know the exact distance ) to Balfour Garden, some 30 minutes away.

Large space of greens & Pure Oxygen, Birds & Tortoises, waterfalls, swings & other games... 3 hours were not sufficient. But at least, it was a nice kick-off for the holidays !
